Phony security Alerts are the emails or pop-up windows that seem to be from a reputed hardware or software manufacturers like Microsoft, Dell e.t.c
It warns /alerts the user that the system is infected and thus will provide him with attachments or a link in order to patch the system.
Scammer suggests the user download and installs those patches. This may end up introducing malware into the system.
The trap is that the file contains a malicious program that may, in fact, the user system.
