6 Basic Knowledge Project Managers Should Have

 

There is some basic knowledge that Project Managers should have about the Organisation. The Project Manager should be able to understand the whole organisation in order to make some basic decisions.

 

#1 Strategy

The first step the Project Manager needs to know is the strategy of the organisation. The project manager needs to know the blueprint that the organisation has decided to adopt in order to achieve organisational goals. This will allow the Project Manager to align the project organisational goals.

 

#2 Mission

The other basic knowledge that the Project Manager needs to understand is the mission of the organisation. These are the critical goals that the organisation set to achieve.

 

Some of these missions can be achieved through projects. That is why the organisation need to employ a Project Manager that understands the direction that the organisation is going.

 

He has to support the organisation in achieving these goals.

 

#3 Goals and objectives

The Project Manager needs to understand the goals and objectives of the organisation. He needs to know both the immediate and future goals of the organisation.

 

Most importantly, the Project Manager needs to understand what a particular organisation wants to achieve through a particular project.

 

#4 Products and services

Another basic knowledge that the Project Manager should have has to do with having knowledge about the products and services of the organisation.

 

The knowledge of arrays of products and services that the company has to offer will assist the Project Manager in advising the organisation appropriately on how the project(s) can be used to improve the value of such products and services. This will allow the Project Manager to align the project to improve organisational goals.

The Project Manager needs to have a deep knowledge of the operations of the organisation, the type of organisation as well as the type of technology being adopted by the organisation in the production of goods and services.

 

#6 Market Conditions

The Project Manager also needs to understand the market and market conditions surrounding the products and services of the organisation. He needs to know whether competitors are developing superior products and services that can rival the organisational product and services being developed.

 

This will help him in knowing the features that the developed products and services will help in knowing the features that the products and services should have.

 

He also needs to know the current state of the market whether it is growing or shrinking generally.

 

#7 Competitors

The Project Manager also needs to understand the current state of competition in the organisation. He needs to know the position the organisation currently occupies in the market place.

 

He also needs to know the current efforts of the competitors to upset competition in the niche market as well as what the organisation is currently doing to stay afloat.
