6 Things Successful Project Managers does better

 

There are some basic knowledge that Project Managers should have about the organisation. The Project manager should be able to stand the whole organisation in order to make some basic decisions.

#1 Continuously prioritizing work

It is expected that a successful project manager should know how to prioritize his work. There will always be resources competing for funds, the project manager needs to know the order of work so that he can make the right decision at every point in time.

 

#2 Prioritization method

It is the duty of a successful Project Manager to find the Prioritization method that works for him and use it.

 

He has to make sure that such Prioritization method is also acceptable to his stakeholders. After the acceptance process, he has to make sure that such Prioritization method is applied uniformly to his project.

 

#3 High-level strategic priorities

The Project Manager in prioritizing his work also have to differentiate high-level strategic priorities, especially those that are related to critical success factors for the project.

 

That means the Project Manager must pay special attention to those tasks that must be done. Those kinds of tasks determine the success of the project.  The Project Manager has to make sure they are done at the right time and in the right manner.

 

#4 Maintain vigilance

There is a need for the Project Manager to maintain vigilance on project constraints. Some of these constraints would have been determined from the beginning of the project.

 

The Project Manager needs to be monitoring these constraints and be updating stakeholders on the status of these constraints.

 

#5 Remain flexible

The Project Manager also needs to remain flexible on tactical priorities. That means the Project Manager must be able to change the tactics in tune with the reality of the project. He has to to be ready to change his tactics to reflect the primary focus of the entire organisation.

 

#6 Sifting Information

The Project Manager must be able to sift through a large amount of information and come up with facts. It is a common fact that a large amount of information will be available to the Project Manager from within and outside the organisation. A successful Project Manager needs to know how to analyse data in order to make accurate predictions.
