What to do if you are a Victim of Stolen Identity
In this article, I want to tell you what you need to do if you are a victim of stolen identity. You do need to panic. Just take the essential steps that I am about to show you in this article.
Here are the steps….
#1 Contact the reported agencies.
You can visit:
www.experian.com
www.equifax.com
www.transunion.com
#2 Immediately inform credit bureaus and establish fraud alerts.
#3 Request a credit report
This will ensure that you confirm that no fraud has been perpetrated in your name.
#4 Review
You have to review the credit reports and alert the credit agencies..
#5 Freeze
There is a need for you to freeze the credit reports with credit reporting agencies.
#6 Contact
You need to contact all your creditors and notify them of the fraudulent activity.
#7 Change
There is a need for you to change all the passwords of online accounts that you have.
#8 Close
There is a need for you to close the accounts that you know or believe have been tampered with or open fraudulently.
#9 File
You will need to file a report with the local police or the police in the community where the identity theft took place.
#10 Compliant
You need to also file a complaint with identity theft and cybercrime reporting agencies such as the FTC.
#11 Advice
There is a need for you to take advice from police and reporting agencies about how to protect yourself from further identity compromise.
#12 Ask
You need to ask the credit card company about new account numbers.
#13 Declare
You need to tell the debt collector you are a victim of fraud and not responsible for the unpaid bill.
#14 Report
You need to ask the bank to report the fraud to a consumer reporting agency such CheckSystems that compiles a report on checking accounts.
