Analysing Change Control Systems for Projects
Change Control Systems are collections of formal, documented procedures for changing official project documents; it specifies how project deliverables will be controlled, changed and approved.
An effective change control system includes forms, tracking methods, processes, and approval levels required for authorizing or rejecting requested changes.
Change Control Systems often specify that a Change Control Board will address the issues that affect the scope, cost, time and product quality.
A typical example…
A Project Manager for an internal project documented the project changes in the change control system. Any changes affecting the original scope, cost, or schedule baselines must be submitted with a standardized change requests form, including a description of the change being requested, it’s a relative priority, and the reason behind it.
The internal CCB will evaluate each proposed change request for potential risks and benefits and make a decision whether to approve or reject the change.
