When you form project teams for your project, they are expected to work together in order to achieve the desired results. Most at times, things might not go the way you expect. That is an indication that there is a problem with your team formation and you need to take action in order to correct the errors. In this article, I want to talk about four major symptoms of teamwork problems. Follow me as we look at that together in this article.
#1 Frustrated Team Members
One of the signs of dysfunctional team members is frustration written on the faces of your team members. The symptoms may also include complaining, negativity, or poor productivity from your team members. If this is not addressed on time, it may affect the output from the team and lead to stakeholder dissatisfaction with the output of the project.
#2 Unhealthy conflict
As a Project Manager, you need to watch out for factionalism, in which subgroups work to their advantage at the expense of the project as a whole. This category of people might work towards outshining others without putting into consideration the general interest of the project. This kind of attitude might put the project in jeopardy. It can also lead to general dissatisfaction with the project.
#3 Pointless meetings
- If meetings are not productive in solving problems or making team decisions, they can demoralize the team. Check the meetings have a specific and useful purpose and that the purpose is achieved. Also, keep a check on the level of participation in the meeting. You should not also invite anyone that has nothing to contribute to the objective of the meeting.
#4 Lack of confidence in the Project Manager
The team has to believe that the Project Manager has a vision, a strategy for making the vision happen, and the ability to translate the strategy into action. If team members begin to second-guess or leave the team manager out of the decision-making loop, something needs to be done.
