Team logistics for Projects is the practice of providing the materials and facilities needed by the team to accomplish their tasks.
When it comes to logistics, you as the Project Manager has to ensure that all that you need to succeed has been provided before the project commences. This will ensure that the Project Manager has a hitch-free project.
Some of the logistics we can talk about for projects include:
#1 Materials
One of the most important logistics needed for projects are materials needed to produce project deliverables. You have to liaise with departmental managers in order to ensure that the needed materials for the project are produced as at when due.
#2 Facilities
Another major component needed to produce project deliverables has to do with the facilities that must be produced in order to ensure that the project is successful. This includes the facility for the team, including space, desks, phones, desktops, software as well as electric power for the project.
#3 Communication
As the Project Manager, you are going to use about ninety percent of your time communicating with your team members and other stakeholders. You need to make sure that all the tools that you need to communicate with stakeholders are made available. This should be part of the overall cost of your project.
#4 Software and Hardware
Other major tools that the organisation needs to succeed are software and hardware components that the Project Manager and his team need in order to succeed. The Project Manager has to liaise with relevant Subject Matter Experts and functional managers in order to ensure that all software and hardware are provided in order to guarantee project success.
#5 Travels
Part of the logistics that you need for your project also include travel facilities which comprise of transportation, lodging, and other arrangements that will allow team members to move from one point to another. When assigning tasks, you need to consider the needed for team members to move from one end to another in order to perform tasks. You have to ensire that all necessary tools are provided in order to aid their movements.
