This will allow the project manager to consider all factors and decide on what might likely go wrong with the project, plan for it and decide on the timeline that it will take to finish the project. #1 Expert Judgement
As a project manager, you will always have to rely on the knowledge and experience of others. Most at times, you have to rely on what the expert has to tell you about the project based on what has happened in the past. You will need the advice of the expert as it relates to schedule development, management and control. It will also assist you in deciding on the schedule methodologies that you are going to use for your project. This is also referred to as the developmental approach for the project.
At this stage, you also have to decide on the type of scheduling software that you are going to manage the project. At times, you may need to work with the IT department of your organisation to develop a scheduling software that will be used for the project. You also have to determine the specific industry for which the project will be used. This will allow you to decide on factors to be considered when developing a tool for managing the project.
#2 Data Analysis
A Data Analysis technique that can be used for this process includes but is not limited to alternatives analysis. Alternative can include determining which schedule methodology to use, or how to combine various methods on the project. It can also include determining how detailed the schedule need to be, the duration of waves for rolling wave planning, and how often it should be reviewed and updated.
An appropriate balance between the level of detail needed to manage the schedule and the amount of time it takes to keep it up to date need to be reached for each project.
#3 Meetings
Project teams may hold planning meetings to develop the schedule management plan. Participants at these meetings may include the project manager, the project sponsor, selected project team members, selected stakeholders, anyone with responsibility for schedule planning or execution, and others as needed.
