Major Inputs Of Control Project Schedule

In my previous article, I have tried to make some introduction into what control project schedule is for a project . It is that time in your project that you try as much as possible to be realistic with your project. This will allow you to look at your plans for your project and make necessary adjustments so that your project can align. I want to look at the inputs of control project schedule in this article.

Here are the inputs…

#1 Project Management Plan

One of the inputs to control your project schedule is your project management plan which consists of documents that are created to guide the project manager. With it, the project manager can decide how the project will move from the beginning to the end of the project.

Here are some of the documents needed…

Schedule management plan: The schedule management plan describes the frequency at which the schedule will be updated, how the reserve will be used, and how the schedule will be controlled for the project.

Schedule baseline: The schedule baseline is compared with actual results to determine if a change, corrective action, or preventive action is necessary for the project.

Scope baseline: The project WBS, deliverables, constraints and assumptions documented in the scope baseline are considered explicitly when monitoring and controlling the schedule baseline.

#2 Project documents

Another major input to control the project schedule is the project documents. They are documents that have been gathered in the course of running your project. Some of the project documents that are needed to control the project schedule include:

Lesson learned register: Lesson learned earlier in the project can be applied to later phases in the project to improve schedule control for the project.

Project calendars: A scheduling model may require more than one project calendar to allow for different work periods for some activities to calculate the schedule forecasts.

Project schedule: Project schedule refers to the most recent version with notations to indicate updates, completed activities, and started activities as of the indicated date.

#3 Work Performamce Data

Work Performance Data contains data on project status such as which activities have started their progress e.g actions, duration, remaining duration, and physical percentage complete, and which activities have finished.

#4  Organisational Process Assets

The organisational process assets that can influence the control schedule includes existing formal and informal schedule control-related policies, processes and guidelines, schedule control tools as well as monitoring and reporting methods to be used.

Now your take on this argument.
