4 Major Outputs Of Plan Quality Management

In my previous article, I want to talk about some of the major tools and techniques in project management for project. In this article, I will be looking at sone of the major outputs of plan quality management for projects.

Outputs of plan quality management

Here are the outputs….

#1 Quality Management Plan

The quality management plan is a component of project management plan that describes how applicable policies, procedures and guidelines will be implemented to achieve the quality objectives.

It describes the activities and resources neccesary for the project management team to achieve the quality objectives set for the project.

The quality management plan at be formal or informal, detailed or breifed. The style and detail of the quality management plan are determined by the requirements of the project.

The quality management plan should be reviewed early in the project to ensure that decisions are based on accurate information. The benefits of this review can include a sharper focus on the project value proposition , reduction in costs and less frequent schedule overruns that are caused by rework.

Quality Management plan for projects include the following components :

  • Quality standards that will be used for the project.
  • Quality objectives of the project.
  • Quality roles and responsibilities
  • Project deliverables and processes subject to quality review.
  • Quality control and quality management activities planned for the project.
  • Quality tools that will be used for the project.
  • Major procedures relevant to the project , such as dealing with non conformance , corrective actions procedures and continuous improvement procedures.

#2 Quality Metrics

A Quality metric specifically describes a project or product attribute and how the Control Quality process will verify compliance to it.

Some examples of quality metrics include percentage of task completed on time, cost performance measured by CPI , failure rate, number of defects identified per day , total downtime per month, errors found per line of code, customer satisfaction scores , and percentage of requirements covered by the test plan as a measure of test coverage.

#3 Project Management Plan updates

Any change to the project management plan goes through the organisation ‘s change control process via a change request.

Components of change management plan include:

Risk management plan: Decisions on the quality management approach may require change to the agreed-upon approach to managing risk on the project , and these will be recorded in the risk management plan.

Scope baseline: The scope baseline may change as a result of this process if specific quality management activities need to be added. The WBS Dictionary also records quality requirements , which may need updating.

#4 Project Document Updates

The project documents that may be updated as a result of carrying out this process include:

Lesson learned register: The lesson learned register is updated with information on challenges encountered in the quality planning process.

Requirements Traceability Matrix

When quality requirements are specified by this process, they are recorded in the requirements Traceability Matrix.

Risk register: New risks identified sure ng this process are recorded in the risk register and managed using the risk management processes.

Stakeholder register

Where additional information on existing or new stakeholders is gathered as a result of this process, it is recorded in the stakeholder register.
